A handover does not mean the scaffold can be ignored for the rest of the project. It should receive the required ongoing inspections, and severe weather or any event that may affect its stability can trigger an additional check.

1. Check the forecast before work starts.

2. Keep platforms clear of loose materials.

3. Secure tools and materials that could become airborne.

4. Stop work when conditions make the platform unsafe.

5. Report movement, damaged components or altered ties immediately.

6. Keep people off the scaffold until it has been checked when there is concern about its condition.

The contractor controlling the work should make sure everyone using the scaffold understands these rules. A sound structure does not remove the need for safe decisions by the people working on it.
